CS105: Simon Brenchley - Hodgson 18 cylinder radial engine

I am presently building the Hodgson 18 cylinder radial engine and have been involved with this project for about six months. I am a radial engine fan and even have my own WACO. I hope one day to scale its Jacobs engine down and machine that as well. I draw the parts in Solidworks and then transfer them to Featurecam. I have modified the FADAL 3 and 4 axis posts within Featurecam to enable the NC programs to run the PCNC1100 Mill. The crankcase halves, oil pump, cam support, front and rear case, impellor, radial holes etc have all been done on the Tormach mill.

    CS135: US Marines Project

I purchased an ArtCam program for my Tormach Milling machine and have been making some cool name plates for machines I build. I currently have a job for the US Marines, and am machining the plate right now. The machine is great, it works very well. I did not install the update program because there is no problem with the machine. You have a good product. I did have to install a fan on the X axis motor, the machine will run for 20 hours sometimes, so that motor was getting hot. Here’s the picture of my completed project for the US Marines.

CS140: Custom Backing Plate for Duality Lathe

These pictures show custom made adapters to the collet chuck and also for the 3 and 4 jaw chucks. The one plate is bolted onto the spindle and stays there. The collet chuck is bolted to that adapter directly, and all others use a second adapter to mount for each of the 3 and 4 jaw chucks. I used the bolt pattern for the collet chuck but it was too close to the other chucks so I put in a second hole pattern for bolting on the 3 and 4 jaw chucks.

  • CS145: World\'s Smallest Co-Axial Indicator
    CS145: World\'s Smallest Co-Axial Indicator

I have attached two pictures of what I think may be the world’s smallest co-axial indicator. Everything you see (except for the dial indicator and the shaft) was machined from scratch using my Tormach 770. The rocker element on the end is bronze, the body is brass, the bearings and flanges are 6061 aluminum and the shaft is stainless steel. I did machine the forks into the shaft to hold the rocker. The people at Starrett liked the idea enough to donate the dial indicator which is very small. I needed this tool because my Sherline mill only has a nose to table Z distance of 6.25 inches. No way can you use a conventional co-ax indicator on that mill. As a matter of fact it is not all that easy on the Tormach!
