PCNC 1100: The Leader in Small CNC Milling Machines
The Tormach PCNC 1100 personal CNC mill is a new approach in CNC milling machines – a small CNC mill designed for real work with the power to cut serious materials. Milling circuit boards, aluminum, and engineering polymers are a breeze when your CNC milling machine is built to cut materials like steel, iron, stainless, and titanium.
PCNC 1100 personal CNC mills were engineered from the ground up to be the best value in small CNC milling machines. The Tormach PCNC 1100 personal CNC mill was thoughtfully designed with a combination of quality components and proven technology to create an affordable small CNC milling machine that provides unprecedented value in CNC mills.

Design Elements: PCNC 1100 CNC Mill
Iron and Frame Design
Each PCNC 1100 CNC mill has over half a ton of cast iron and steel that is precisely placed to achieve maximum frame rigidity in a footprint that's about the size of a traditional manual milling machine.
The sliding dovetailed ways are hand-scraped and designed to withstand high loads and dampen vibrations. The ways have bonded PTFE filled acetyl sliding surfaces, hand scraped by skilled machine builders. Similar to brand name compounds such as Turcite® or Rulon®, PTFE compounds provide low friction and long life.
Spindle System
Each PCNC 1100 small CNC mill features an R8 spindle with a 3 3/8" nose diameter - the same standard dimension as popular Bridgeport -style manual mills. This can be used in combination with the innovative quick-change Tormach Tooling System® (TTS) or any generic R8 tooling.
The CNC milling machine spindle is driven by a robust 1.5HP induction motor powered by state-of-the art sensorless vector variable frequency drive technology from Emerson Control Techniques™. The drive's quick acceleration/deceleration provides a responsive spindle with the capability to meet demanding processes such as tension-compression tapping. Power transmission is accomplished with a simple, low–maintenance belt driven induction motor with two belt ratios, covering speeds from 100-5120 RPM.
Tormach PCNC 1100 personal CNC mills also feature our exclusive fold backspindle logic. Fold back logic senses when the spindle motor is having difficulty maintaining the programmed speed due to excessive cutting loads and reduces the commanded motor speed temporarily, if necessary, to maintain adequate cutting torque. Its analogous to an automatic transmission dropping into low gear on a hill.
Motion System
Motion control is provided by high performance polyphase stepper motors with microstepping driver technology from Leadshine®. These drive systems not only provide superior torque at cutting speeds, but improved linearity, reduced vibration, and quieter operation when compared to other stepper systems available today. Each axis uses a P4 precision ground double-nutted ballscrew for repeatable and accurate motion resolution.

Technical Overview
The PCNC 1100 Series 3 is the third generation of our best-selling small CNC mill. From the beginning, the PCNC 1100 was developed as an affordable, easy-to-use CNC Mill for engineers, designers, inventors, technicians, hobbyists, educators, and specialty/short-run manufacturers. Each PCNC 1100 combines quality components with thoughtful engineering and Tormach's best-in-class technical support to provide the best value in CNC milling.
PCNC 1100 CNC Mill Design Considerations:
- Affordable Precision - achieved by a combination of dynamic stiffness and motion resolution. An engineered frame provides maximum stiffness/weight ratio. Direct-drive anti-backlash ballscrews coupled to a precision microstepping drive system provide best-in-class motion resolution.
- Capability to Cut any Material – from plastic and aluminum to stainless and pre-hardened steel. A Robust 1.5hp spindle design with digital drive electronics provides both the speed range and torque characteristics to tackle any job, no matter the material.
- Expandable, Modular Design – add accessories like 4th Axis, Automatic Tool Changer, Power Draw Bar as needed. PCNC 1100 CNC Mills are designed to grow with your business and interests.
- Low cost of Ownership – a well executed, but simple design means your PCNC 1100 CNC Mill is easy to maintain and affordable to run. Its built for the rigors of daily use, but affordable as an occasional, at-the-ready CNC milling capability.
New Features: PCNC 1100 Series 3 CNC Mill
For the PCNC 1100 Series 3, we introduced a completely revamped axis motion system that combines high performance polyphase motors with state-of-the-art Leadshine® microstepping drive electronics. As a result, the PCNC 1100 Series 3 CNC Mill provides increased torque at cutting speeds, faster motion maximums, and ultra-quiet performance over previous generations of Tormach CNC Milling machines.
Polyphase Motion Provides:
- Increased maximum motion speeds
- Significant Improved Torque at Cutting Speeds
- Lower Noise
- Improved Accuracy
- Improved Linearity
- Reduced Vibration
For more information about the benefits of polyphase motion, refer to our ED10223: Series 3 Design Analysis Whitepaper
Additional New Feature: PCNC 1100 Series 3 CNC Mill
