PDF Bike Project

We are using our PCNC 1100 a lot for rework of parts we get from outside vendors and have been producing some new prototype parts as well. I am working on an old café bike project and doing a complete frame up re-build/custom, attached is the front disk off a 1975 Honda CB400F that I modified for lighter weight and visual coolness, I still need to refinish the hub area.

PDF World's Smallest Co-Axial Indicator

I have attached two pictures of what I think may be the world’s smallest co-axial indicator. Everything you see (except for the dial indicator and the shaft) was machined from scratch using my Tormach 770. The rocker element on the end is bronze, the body is brass, the bearings and flanges are 6061 aluminum and the shaft is stainless steel. I did machine the forks into the shaft to hold the rocker. The people at Starrett liked the idea enough to donate the dial indicator which is very small. I needed this tool because my Sherline mill only has a nose to table Z distance of 6.25 inches. No way can you use a conventional co-ax indicator on that mill. As a matter of fact it is not all that easy on the Tormach!

PDF Custom Backing Plate for Duality Lathe

These pictures show custom made adapters to the collet chuck and also for the 3 and 4 jaw chucks. The one plate is bolted onto the spindle and stays there. The collet chuck is bolted to that adapter directly, and all others use a second adapter to mount for each of the 3 and 4 jaw chucks. I used the bolt pattern for the collet chuck but it was too close to the other chucks so I put in a second hole pattern for bolting on the 3 and 4 jaw chucks.

PDF US Marines Project

I purchased an ArtCam program for my Tormach Milling machine and have been making some cool name plates for machines I build. I currently have a job for the US Marines, and am machining the plate right now. The machine is great, it works very well. I did not install the update program because there is no problem with the machine. You have a good product. I did have to install a fan on the X axis motor, the machine will run for 20 hours sometimes, so that motor was getting hot. Here’s the picture of my completed project for the US Marines.

YouTube Five Cylinder Air Radial Engine

This was the first model engine that I built three years ago. It was done almost entirely on a Tormach PCNC mill as an exercise to learn to use the machine and the SolidWorks/Sprutcam CAD/CAM software. I modified the head design to eliminate the need for soldering per the original plan set and to keep the entire model in white metal.

KFx Medical Corporation was founded in 2003 to develop clinically relevant solutions to rotator cuff disease. Torn rotator cuffs alone account for in excess of 500,000 surgeries a year and have traditionally required many weeks of rehabilitation. Minimally invasive techniques provide patients with less pain and time until range of motion is restored, yet require surgeons to have advanced videoscopic skills, yet. The KFx solution is to provide simple systems for the surgeon, while at the same time provide a more anatomical like repair for the patient in order to yield better clinical outcomes. In excess of four million people seek medical advice each year due to shoulder pain. KFx is privately held company located in San Diego. For more information, please visit: www.kfxmed.com.

Article The Cutting Edge: Knife Artisans Look to Affordable ‘Personal CN

One of the biggest technological developments for custom knife makers in more than a decade has been the development of “Personal CNC” machines. CNC, which is short for computer numeric controlled machining, is essentially automatic cutting through the use of computerized CAD files. Although CNC has been around since the 80s, the scale of mills missed the mark for bladesmithing. Desktop-sized machines could be automated through a PC, but lacked the power to accurately cut blade-quality steel. The other alternatives – large industrial sized mills used in mass manufacturing – were out of the price range and the skill set of an individual artist.
