CNC Scanner Now Available
January 28, 2010 by: Andy G.- The Tormach CNC Scanner includes USB Scope hardware and CNC ScanCAD software
- This is a scan of part for an AR-15 rifle
- Engine Case for a KTM motorcycle
- This DXF was produced to reverse engineer spacing for the bolt circle pattern
- This image is actually an array of 800 photos stiched together for a resulting 2869 DPI
- The same coin image now zoomed-in.
Tormach CNC Scanner is now available for sale on our website.
CNC Scanner is a 2D dimensional scanner for the PCNC or other Mach 3 controlled CNC mill. It makes high resolution composite images by automatically stitching together an array of snapshots taken with a USB microscope mounted in the spindle of the mill. The length scale of these composite images is calibrated to the motion of the mill, so you can get very accurate measurements that might not have been possible with conventional gauge tools. It includes Tormach CNC Scan CAD, which is the analysis software that allows you to measure and draw with some basic AutoCAD style commands to make .dxf files for reverse engineering.
We ran a beta test program with this last fall and were really excited about some of the applications that the testers came up with. We put together a small white paper with application examples and an engineering discussion. You can read it here.

Excellent. This has always been an issue for me as most of my parts need to fit up with exisitng parts.
