Model Engine Building with the PCNC: 18 Cylinder Radial!

October 2, 2009 by: Andy G.

Simon B. from Hong Kong sent us these pictures of his latest project, an 18 cylinder radial engine, built from plans from Lee Hodgson at Ageless Engines. From Simon:

“I am presently building the Hodgson 18 cylinder radial engine and have been involved with this project for about six months.
I am a radial engine fan and even have my own WACO A/C hangared in the UK(picture attached). I hope one day to scale its Jacobs engine down and machine that as well.
I draw the parts in Solidworks and then transfer them to Featurecam. I have modified the FADAL 3 and 4 axis posts within Featurecam to enable the NC programs to run the PCNC1100 Mill. Both crankcase halves, the oil pump, the cam support, front and rear case, impellor, radial holes etc have all been done on the mill.”

Here’s some pictures:

Ann M. thought this was one of the cleanest customer shops we've seen pictures of.

Simon's next project is a scaled down model of this Waco biplane's Jacobs engine

Hi, I’ve accidently found this site while browsing on online as I’m looking for some info on engine lifts!. I think it’s a very interesting blog so I’ve bookmarked your site and I intend to revisit soon to enjoy a proper browse when I’m more free.
