PCNC 770 Personal Milling Machine

The PCNC 770 utilizes the same proven design principles as Tormach's industry leading PCNC 1100 mill, but in a space economizing smaller package.

Iron:

The PCNC 770 is built with a stout cast- iron frame.  Each mill is built from over 650 lbs. of cast iron and steel that is precisely placed to achieve maximum frame rigidity while still maintaining a size and shape that's manageable in the small shop or lab.

The sliding dovetailed ways are hand-scraped cast iron, designed to withstand high loads and dampen vibrations. The ways have bonded PTFE filled acetal sliding surfaces. Similar to brand name compounds such as Turcite® or Rulon®, PTFE compounds provide low friction and long life. And unlike other small footprint mills, the PCNC 770 has tapered gibs instead of an inferior plate and set screw design.

Spindle:

Each mill features a R8 spindle with a 3 3/8" nose diameter that is common to popular Bridgeport -style manual mills. This can be used in combination with the innovative quick-change Tormach Tooling System® (TTS) or any generic R8 tooling.

Unique to the PCNC 770 is a dynamically balanced spindle cartridge which allows the PCNC 770 to achieve a spindle speed of 10000 RPM, making it a perfect choice for engraving and light finishing with small diameter cutters.

State-of-the-art sensorless vector technology from Emerson Control Techniques™ provides the 1HP spindle motor with exceptional speed and torque characteristics. The drive's quick acceleration/deceleration improves performance while extending capabilities to demanding processes such as tension-compression tapping. Power transmission is accomplished with a simple, low –maintenance belt driven induction motor with two belt ratios. The spindle drive provides infinite speed control of 175 to 3250 RPM in the low ratio, and 525 to 10000 RPM in the high ratio to cover your needs from tapping to finishing.

Motion:

Motion control is provided by high performance polyphase stepper motors with microstepping driver technology from Leadshine®.  These drive systems not only provide superior torque at cutting speeds, but improved  linearity, reduced vibration, and quieter operation when compared to other stepper systems popular today.  The stepper motors drive the same precision ground P4 grade ball screws used on the PCNC 1100, giving each axis repeatable and accurate motion resolution.
